Apokrypha were born in 1999 (back then under the monicker To The Seven; re-named in 2003) in the German town of Würzburg and consist of Andreas Hofmann (rhythm guitar, vocals), Jochen Sues (lead guitar), Cosmin Marica (drums) and Freddy Schartl (bass). After the first recordings, "Moral Sloth" (demo, 2002) and "Black Demons" (EP, 2003), here comes the official full-length debut - and what an album it is! Brilliant sound (both massive and crystal-clear) and razor-sharp technical perfection are the two biggest plus points for Apokrypha's dynamic, extremely melodic (no keyboards!) black/death/thrash metal. Raging vocal performance in the black and death metal realms, apocalyptic atmosphere and up-speed riff-based brutality meet upon energetic guitar leads and catchy melodies in such a subliminally metal-hymn-like manner that the first and last thing to say about this CD is: it simply creates good mood! "To the Seven" crushes everything on its way like a ten-ton steam hammer and sweeps the thrash away with lightning and thunder, leaving only manic headbangers behind; releases like this return the faith that newcomer bands with (supposedly) small budgets and little experience can deliver stunningly good debuts of the highest quality. The only minus is the fact that the music lacks a bit of originality, or a little something that will make it easy to remember and recognize again. Also, some more diversity will do no wrong. Still, these small faults aside - just great!
