Rating: 7,5 / 10 APOKRYPHA is a band formed up in 1999 that after numerous line-up changes, the band has changed their named from "TO THE SEVEN" to "APOKRYPHA". Their goal was to create a band capable of playing a kind of stylistic black metal with tons of technical stuff withoutleaving apart the aggressivity and strength. After three demos and promos the band has got a deal with Black Attakk, who are editing their first full-length album, the one we've got here. At first influenced by bands in the line of the not so early IMMORTAL and with tons of Swedish stuff, in the line of DISSECTION and some from DARK FUNERAL, the result is, in one hand, a highly competent melodic black metal with elaborated guitar riffs and, on the other hand, a pretty brutal sound with a contundent instrumentation and vocals in the line of IMMORTAL. Catchy melodies and midtempo pieces, as in track 6, take also the thrash and death metal touches typical from the Skandinavian school making this album really enjoyable and giving it an inherent quality. The bad point is that the sound, mostly some riffs, seems to get repeated more times than the expected, making this album easier to listen to but maybe with nothing new to discover after having listened to it for the first time. Good album on the whole, that will be of the like of black metal lovers but also of thrash and death metal fans. Nothing really new here inside, but very well performed indeed. 18.09.2004 - Lord Adarvark |
